With ever larger and more complex production networks, transparency is an essential building block to achieve sustainable and efficient production processes. To connect its shop floor processes, the well-established German family business Gira relies on STIWA‘s software expertise.

As an industrial business that has been shaping building technology with its solutions for 120 years, Gira is fully aware of the significance of automation and digitalization as a key factor to stay competitive - especially as a manufacturer whose production has been based exclusively in Germany since 1905. As an international premium brand, Gira relies on the combined automation and software expertise of the STIWA Group. When commissioning the new STIWA assembly systems, active training was provided on the shopfloor software simultaneously. „STIWA‘s monitoring and analysis tools have made it possible to harness the full technological potential of our new systems and ensure a continuous and sustainable increase in productivity during operation,“ says Andreas Dürwald, Head of Assembly at Gira.

In-depth insight into the production process

More than 180 stations are connected to the STIWA software platform in Gira‘s new system network for the fully automated assembly and packaging of switches and socket outlets. This way, the actual production status can be visualized in a transparent way, Alexander Meisinger, Customer Success Management STIWA Software, explains: „We have ensured that Gira has access to real-time data along the entire production process at all times, regardless of location, by providing information on what is happening in the production process, where, how and why. In addition, in the event of a malfunction proactive notifications are sent so the operators can react immediately.“ The wide range of analysis paths offered by Analysis-CI contribute significantly to achieving a sustainable increase in performance efficiency, availability and quality. “The depth of the preconfigured analysis options and the option to design your own views, dashboards and analysis paths are outstanding. We‘ve never seen anything like it,“ says Dürwald.

Universal software package for the entire machine park

In production, Gira relies on a balanced mix of automation and manual processes that can be adapted quickly and individually. “The next steps towards networking further shop floor processes are already underway,“ says Dürwald. External systems, semi-automated manual workstations or upstream processes can be integrated at any time, Alexander Meisinger points out: „The STIWA Software package can be expanded easily and flexibly.“

Continuous software maintenance

With the software maintenance and support package, the software is guaranteed to be up to date at all times. In addition to closing security gaps, this also includes regular updates to include new features.
